Accommodation & Playing in the British Championships in Liverpool
Accommodation Form for the 2008 British Championships In order to book accommodation at the Apollo Courts University Halls of Residence, players must book in groups of 10. In order to help people do this, the ECF Office is prepared to coordinate people who wish to stay there but do not have the means to form a 10 player unit. The form must be sent in before 7 July. After that the office will not be able to help.
The cost of the rooms at Apollo Court is £37.60 including VAT per night. It is single study bedroom with en suite bathroom and communal kitchen facilities. Breakfast is not included. The courts are directly opposite to St George’s Hall. In order to secure a room, a 10% deposit must be included with this form. It can be sent by cheque or by completing the credit card details on the form itself. Note, you must still send in your entry to Neville Belinfante in the normal way.
This service can only be offered to players who are members of the ECF or their national federation. Click here to download the form.
Typical single study bedroom with en suite.
This year Liverpool is the European Capital of Culture. The city will be buzzing with many different activities. Thus, as a venue, Liverpool can be best compared with Edinburgh where the championships were held with such success in 1985 and 2003.
St George’s Hall is magnificent and probably the grandest hall the event has ever been held in. It is the focal point of the cultural centre of the city and within easy walk of the renovated dockland area. The Wirral is close to the city centre. If you really want the seaside, then you can visit or stay in nearby Southport or Formby.
The main station is directly underneath the hall. Thus it is extremely easy to get to. There are many excellent restaurants nearby to suit all pockets. Liverpool is a very lively city in the evening.
To book your accommodation, please contact The Mersey Partnership Accommodation Hotline on 08448 700 123 (calls are charged at 5p per minute). A 10% deposit (non-refundable) is required at the time of booking to secure a room. Liverpool Tourist information 0151 233 2459 may also be able to help, particularly with caravan or camping sites.
Bookings can be made online at www.visitliverpool.com/site/accommodation. This provides access to a wide variety of accommodation to suit all budgets.
Certain hotels can be found on the following link: https://www.conferencebookings.co.uk/delegate/TMPBRITCH08. If this system is used only a credit card is required and then the total must be paid on arrival at the hotel.
For delegates wishing to purchase student hall accommodation, bookings can only be accepted for groups of 10 or more at a time. This is about 5 minutes walk from the venue. The rate is £37.60 per night (room only). Rooms are en suite with shared kitchen facilities. For help for individuals, click on the ECF Accommodation booking service. Note this is only for this purpose; no other bookings can be made through the federation. Groups of 10 or more can email John.dawson@merseyside.org.uk for availability.
Hostel dormitory accommodation is available at the Hostel International Inn, 15 minutes walk from the venue at £15 per night.
Travelodge City Centre averages £62.14 per night for a double room. Travelodge Liverpool Docks £59.17
Book online www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/. These two hotels are not included in the MPA system. www.laterooms.com/en/p1301/pv2018159/k16294936_liverpool-hotels.aspx?d=20080727&n=7&rt=2,0 lists a number of hotels.
